2006 Hugo nominees announced
The 2006 Hugo nominees were announced the other day. As usual, I have not read any of the nominees for best novel, never mind the short fiction. I'll wait until the books are either in the local library or available in the local used book store. The short fiction may end up online for free at some point. If it does, I'll fire up the iPod ebook creator so I can read the stories when I'm on the go.
If you're looking for something new to read, here are some online freebies that I stumbled across recently. The first is Thomas Pynchon's The Crying of Lot 49 and the other is a Cthuhlu story from Neil Gaiman. If you're looking for something a bit more substantial, check out what people are reading on the Junklog. For more obscure titles, try Neglected Books, a site that discusses quality books flying under the critical radar. There is very little science fiction mentioned on the site, but there may be other titles of interest to you.
If you want to make your own books, why not try your hand at some DIY Bookbinding? Once you're done, give your creation a title using the Fantasy Novel Title Generator.

Most Excellent.
Stross just jumped up into my future-purchase white-list brain-real-estate space.
Thus far Accelerando appears to be an isotope on Gibson's Neuromancer.
(he means it's a new Cyberpunk novel - Ed)
Most Snarfy.
This I suspect, I am going to enjoy.
off to read it.
